The PC version has a more realistic four-point physics model, nuanced damage deformation, is more feature rich, has a less compressed (and largely different) soundtrack, and has graphics that rival many later GameCube/PS2/Xbox era console racers. Electronic Arts openly stated that they wanted to leverage the added power of high-end PC hardware to create a more immersive experience for PC gamers. Why go through the trouble when it is available on PS1? Because each version is literally a completely different game, developed separately by different teams of developers, with EA clearly intending the PC version to the be superior of the two. Multiplayer isn't working too well either. It's not gonna trash your game but it makes things tricky. Unfortunately the controls are a little weak - there's a bit of slipping and sliding going on when you hit the corners. You can hear the cars revving up and zooming along as they fly around the tracks. The car noises are all that and a bag of chips. Maybe you'll drive better with a little pop music in the stereo. If you get sick of them you'll have to toss in your own CD. The tunes for NFS:PU are good as long as you're a techno fan.
